Care & Hanging
Every Pure Patina piece arrives finished and fitted with hanging hardware. The wall fixing itself needs to suit your wall construction and the weight of your particular piece.
Wall construction varies. If you are unsure what your wall is made from, where services run, or which fixing is suitable, ask a competent installer or fixing supplier before drilling. Never rely on a fixing whose safe working load is unknown.
SOLID MASONRY
For sound brick, block or concrete, use screws with masonry plugs or another fixing specifically rated for the wall material and the load. Drill to the fixing manufacturer's specified diameter and depth. Avoid weak mortar joints and make sure the fixing is anchored into sound material.
PLASTERBOARD / DRYWALL
Do not rely on an ordinary screw driven only into plasterboard. Where possible, fix into a timber or suitable structural stud. If that isn't possible, use a purpose-made plasterboard fixing with an appropriate load rating for your wall type, board thickness and the weight of the piece.
TIMBER / STUD WALLS
Where you can locate sound structural timber, use a suitable wood screw of adequate gauge and length. Make sure the screw is anchored securely into the timber rather than only into the decorative wall surface.
OTHER WALL TYPES
Hollow block, lightweight block, tiled surfaces and other specialist walls may require different fixings. Use a fixing designed for that particular substrate and load. If in doubt, seek advice before hanging the piece.
HANGING YOUR PIECE
TAKE YOUR TIME
Choose the position first and check for hidden pipes or electrical cables before drilling. Install the appropriate wall fixing, leaving the head positioned so the fitted hanging wire can engage securely. Lift the piece into position, make sure the wire is properly seated, then level it and check that it is stable.
For larger pieces, we recommend two people for lifting and positioning.
CHECK IT AFTER HANGING
Once installed, gently check that the piece is secure and that the fixing shows no movement. Periodically inspect the hanging wire, D-rings and wall fixing, particularly if the piece has been moved or the wall has been altered.
LOOKING AFTER YOUR PIECE
KEEP IT LOOKING ITS BEST
Dust gently.
Use a clean, soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, aggressive rubbing and household cleaning sprays.
Keep it dry.
Pure Patina pieces are intended for interior or suitably protected indoor environments. Do not expose them to rain, persistent moisture or high humidity.
Avoid extremes.
As with other timber products, avoid positioning directly against strong heat sources or in environments with extreme temperature or humidity changes.
