Padstow Sardines is unusual wooden wall art inspired by Cornwall’s fishing heritage, fish merchants and old harbour trade signs.
Padstow Sardines is a love letter to Cornwall’s working coast — inspired by the harbour town of Padstow, its fishing heritage and the bold, practical graphics once used by fish merchants, smokehouses and harbour traders.
At the centre sits a richly detailed sardine, framed by deep marine blue, weathered red and warm cream. The colours feel salt-washed and familiar, giving the piece the character of an old Cornish trade sign discovered above a quay, in a fish store or tucked away in a harbour workshop. It is restrained enough to sit comfortably in a kitchen, dining room, bar or relaxed living space.
The design carries the spirit of Padstow without becoming a souvenir piece: strong lettering, simple geometry and a substantial carved surface give it the presence of genuine vintage signage. Each piece is precision-cut from 19mm hardwood-veneered engineered timber before being individually sanded, stained and finished by hand, so the grain, tone and small variations remain part of its character.
The reverse is finished to the same standard as the face, and the piece is supplied ready to hang with D-rings and stainless wire.
